How to Solve Multiplication Faster
Multiplication is repeated equal groups. Instead of memorising every fact at once, children can use patterns and break hard facts into easier ones.
Four useful strategies
1Think groups
6 * 4 means 6 groups of 4 or 4 groups of 6.
2Use arrays
Draw rows and columns to see the product visually.
3Break apart
8 * 7 can become 8 * 5 plus 8 * 2.
4Check with addition
Add equal groups to confirm the answer.
Example: 7 * 6 = 7 * 3 + 7 * 3 = 21 + 21 = 42.
Best facts to learn first
Start with 2s, 5s, and 10s. Then use those facts to build 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. The goal is confidence, not speed first.
